Monochrome Experiments

We’re doing something a little different this time…

Basically it’s raining til the far side of eternity for my purposes (okay, through next Tuesday, whatever), and so I can’t really go out and risk the camera in that mess (much as I’d like to, as rain lends to interesting visual changes in the environment). So I’m going to be experimenting with making black and white photos from my archive til that’s over and I can actually go out with the camera.

These aren’t my best shots- a few of them are actually throwaway ones in my opinion, at least in color. The sunrise was turned to black and white because I felt like being really weird, the nature ones don’t really work that well, and most of the rest are architecture. The skyline’s an HDR toning experiment. But I’m trying to figure out black and white/monochrome photography, so I’ll be playing with this stuff through Tuesday, and you can expect more until I can actually take the camera somewhere without turning the thing into a very expensive paperweight. Usually when I experiment I use photos I’ve overlooked and not bothered messing with otherwise; sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re bad, sometimes somewhere in between.

Speaking of black and white photos, I did get a ton of good cemetery shots recently at Hollywood Cemetery but need to get permission before I can go plastering them across the internet (It’s a publicly open space that’s private property). If I manage to work something out with the folks there I’ll have a cemetery gallery or two open on the main page and probably post them here as well. That’s gonna be a while, however, because I’d pretty much have to have the work completed and present it to them somehow if they have time for that.

Anyway, you can expect to be bombarded with stuff that’s not my usual and in black and white for a few days. Have fun with it.
